Welcome to the Flotilla 16-8, District 5NR Web Site

Flotilla 16-08

Shark River, NJ

Division 16
5th District Northern Region

47 foot motor lifeboat underway

Welcome to our site! The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed, all-volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard. We are made up of volunteers from the local community, from many different backgrounds. Our main mission is promoting recreational boating safety, while also acting as a force multiplier in support of Coast Guard authorized missions.

Our Flotilla participates in many Auxiliary missions, such as conducting Vessel Safety Examinations, Boating Safety classes, Marine Dealer visitations, and Public Affairs activities, just to name a few. Members can also pursue qualifications which provide the opportunity to serve alongside our Active Duty counterparts, such as Watchstanding, Food Service, and other various support roles.

Flotilla 16-08 also has the distinction of being one of the few Flotillas in the region with our own dedicated Flotilla patrol boat, as pictured below.  Our patrol boat and our boat crews take part in a variety of Surface Operations, including Maritime Observation Missions (safety patrols), Search and Rescue assistance, and participating in training exercises alongside the Active Duty.

There are many different areas for members to get involved with, depending on your interests.  Auxiliary members enjoy the privilege of wearing the Coast Guard uniform, and the satisfaction that comes from helping to support the United States Coast Guard and our local boating community.

Our monthly Flotilla meeting is held on the second Thursday of every month, at 19:30 hours (7:30pm). We are always looking for potential new members!  Feel free to check out the links on the left side menu to find out more about our Flotilla, and what we do.  If you are interested in membership, please click on the “Contact Us” link and send us an email.  Thanks for your interest!
